For grounding purposes, when a three-phase system does not have a neutral point, a grounding transformer is used to ground the isolated systems and obtain a neutral point.

The grounding transformer can have a zigzag connection, a star-delta connection or an open-delta connection structure. By displaying a low impedance in the phase-to-ground path, it ensures that the neutral voltage of the system remains at the level of the ground voltage and is the source of zero sequence current. It limits the magnitude of transient overvoltages that occur when an arc fault to ground occurs for any reason. They create measurement points to measure fault currents and serve in unbalanced load situations.

Electrical systems operate under varying and complex voltages. Maintenance is supported in electrical systems, but short circuit faults cannot be avoided. Thanks to the use of a grounding transformer, the potential is dissipated in the event of a fault.

Grounding transformers are an inductive device. They do not carry an active charge.

Grounding transformers; They work for a short time; they can be one or two windings. They work one way. Except for the fault condition, it only has idle losses. Its cost is low. It has a high mechanical and thermal resistance in the event of a short circuit.

It can be produced in a reactive power range from 1 to 10 MVAr, up to a voltage level of 36 kV, in three-phase or single-phase, oil type. It is distinguished by its compact structure, simple installation and low maintenance.

As a basic principle, it is formed by combining existing designs in the transformer manufacturing industry and power electronics in the most suitable way. Power electronics system; It offers advantages with its small structure, convenient installation and integrated design attached to the magnetic drive reactor.

Magnetic drive reactor; It is an important device to increase the reactive power balance of the electrical system, the economic benefit and the quality of the power supplies. It is controlled by a thyristor and adjusts the reactive power by changing the trigger angles between 180 and 90 degrees. The inductance is adjusted by changing the saturation of the magnetic core with the change in the forward current of the winding.

MCSRs are technically, economically and in terms of maintenance, the best alternative to thyristor-controlled reactors and SVCs with synchronous capacitor banks.

It can be produced in the reactive power range of 25 kVAr - 10 MVAr, up to a voltage level of 36 kV, with three-phase or single-phase, oily type, dry type, constant power or with automatic power tap changer under charge.

Shunt reactors have a magnetic core structure with a winding and a distributed air gap. It works on the principle that the windings create a certain value of inductance thanks to the energy stored in the spaces of the magnetic circuit. It must be considered that it consumes active energy, so it is in low quantity.

Shunt reactors are also called inductive load reactors.

Shunt reactors are devices that act as an inductive load to provide a capacitive-inductive power balance in capacitive operations.

Capacitive effects on long power transmission lines cause the system to overcompensate and reduce load capacity. Shunt reactors are used to eliminate these effects.

Transformers that are designed to operate under extreme currents and reactive loads under special operating conditions for special purposes are called special type transformers. Astor brand 170 kV, 4000 A, 50 kA line and transformer circuit breakers, whose production and type tests were successfully completed in 2020, started to take their place in HV Energy Systems.

ASTOR circuit breakers which were manufactured for the first time in Turkey by 2020, will be utilized in the power transmission. These circuit breakers are the equipments that are used extensively in the transmission system, production plants and are being completely imported. Currently, the managers and technical team of TEİAŞ (Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation) are checking the prototype of these circuit breakers and are about to finish the inspections according to the specifications.
